FAQ

Q: Do we need to buy our own roller skates and protection equipment?

A: Because of the sheer variety of skates on the market, it is best for all attendees to purchase and personalize their own rollerblades. If you have questions or want recommendations, please check our website or email the club gmail! Protective gear (e.g. elbow pads and knee pads) will be provided, but please buy your own helmet.

Q: What should we bring to each meeting?

A: Your rollerblades and helmet—complimentary elbow/knee pads and snacks will be provided. Check the “Packing List” on our website for more information!

Q: Who will be teaching?

A: High School students (between the grades of 9th-12th) with personal experience in skating and working with kids will be involved in the instruction of rollerblading. If you are an interested and passionate high school student, we invite you to fill out the “Rollerblading Mentor” google form on our website to join our club!

Q: Is this safe?

A: Yes! Only high school students that have been thoroughly interviewed and screened for positive attitudes and good behavior are allowed to teach the kids. However, common scrapes and injuries may still occur, so it is crucial for the guardian of the attendee(s) to complete the needed forms on the website/email. The club officers will have a basic first aid kit on hand, but it is best if the parent is there in case of emergency.

Q: Is there a fee to join the club?

A: Nope! The Roller Kids’ Club is a completely non-profit organization, and attendees will not be charged for lessons. Donations and help, however, are entirely welcome and appreciated!

Q: Who can join?

A: The age range for potential students is 8 years to 13 years old. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend. If you are a high school student, and is interested in contributing to the club, please fill out the “Rollerblading Mentor” application on our website to join/teach!

Since the purpose of the club is to benefit all kids in the community through promoting exercise, everyone (between the ages of 8-13) is welcome to attend! You do not need previous experience in rollerblading, and other activities are encouraged - if you prefer biking, skateboarding, scootering, or other means of exercise, please join our“Freelance” session from 10:30-11:30AM on Saturdays at the Santa Anita Park.

Q: How do I join?

A: In order to attend one of our club sessions (where you get free rollerblading lessons from experienced high school students), please sign-up on our website. After completing the sign-up form, we will send you an email with the needed forms and information. You only need to fill out your information once (check our our privacy policy). However, you/your child will not be able to attend without signing up.

Q: What will I learn?

A: By signing up to attend our club sessions, you/your child will learn basic rollerblading skills from experienced high school students. Although this does not include tricks or competition-level expertise, students will be able to master leisure forms of rollerblading for everyday recreation and exercise.

Exclusive rollerblading lessons run from 9:30-10:30AM on Saturdays at the Santa Anita Park. If you prefer biking, skateboarding, scootering, etc. please come to our “Freelance” session from 10:30AM-11:30AM (same day, same location). Also feel free to come to both for maximum instruction and exercise!
